Abstract

The application of therapeutic communication affects patient satisfaction which has a positive impact on the progress of his health, thereby affecting the satisfaction of patients receiving nursing actions. The study aims to determine the relationship of therapeutic communication with patient satisfaction in inpatient surgery class 3 Kalisat Regional Hospital in Jember Regency. This type of research is correlational analytic with Cross Sectional design. The independent variable is therapeutic communication and the dependent variable is the level of patient satisfaction. The population of all patients in May-July 2014 obtained a sample of 20 people taken by convenience sampling. The measurement tools are questionnaires. After the data is collected it is processed and analyzed using rank spearmen. The results showed that respondents who received good therapeutic communication (25%) 10% were very satisfied and 15% were satisfied, and therapeutic communication respondents all expressed dissatisfaction (65%), and lack of therapeutic communication (10%) all expressed dissatisfaction. Based on the Spearmen rank statistical test with the help of SPSS (16) the significance value (0.002) because p: <0.05, there is a therapeutic communication relationship with the level of patient satisfaction in the Class 3 Surgical Inpatient Hospital of the Kalisat Regional Hospital in Jember Regency. Nurses must recognize the importance of applying correct therapeutic communication to improve patient satisfaction and the quality of nursing services that will accelerate the healing process himself. The ability of nurses to apply therapeutic communication techniques requires practice and sensitivity and sharpness of feeling, because communication takes place not only depending on ability but also in the dimensions of value, time and space that also influence the success of communication that is seen through its therapeutic impact on patient health and satisfaction.
